Alpha Male Tea Party

If Alpha Male Tea Party have been in a cocoon for the last 5 years, they’ve now burst out, not so much as a beautiful butterfly but as a wretched, screaming mutant that knows how to behave at the dinner table.

After a break from touring and performing, the Liverpool-based trio are back and they’ve been busy. Following on from 2020’s Infinity Stare, they now emerge with Reptilian Brain, a bold and expansive new album, released on Big Scary Monsters in October 2025. Known for their combination of vast and aggressive instrumental workings, Alpha Male Tea Party have long stood at the vanguard of the UK’s math and progressive rock scenes. With Reptilian Brain, they push their sonic identity into striking new territory: for the first time, vocals and lyrics play a central role.

While retaining the band’s signature mix of heavy riffs, polyrhythmic grooves, and melodic complexity, Reptilian Brain introduces a more direct emotional resonance. The inclusion of vocals marks a significant creative leap, transforming their dense, guitar-driven arrangements into narratives that confront grief, anger, and existential dread with surprising vulnerability.

“It started to become clear that we wanted to use our voices to speak more directly”, says guitarist and vocalist Tom Peters. “We found ourselves feeling like we had more to say and communicating that through music alone wasn’t enough anymore.”

Tracks like Battle Crab dissect performative aggression, viscerally related to a night out steeped in unwarranted violence when all you wanted to do was have a quiet pint and listen to 10CC, while A Terrible Day to Have Eyes explores the irreversible trauma of experiencing profound loss. Probably Just Hungry channels anxiety and time-pressure into a tightly-wound assault, delivered with AMTP’s trademark blend of power and precision. All pretty cheerful.

Another evolution comes in the form of producer Mark Roberts (Black Peaks, Delta Sleep, Vower), whose external perspective brought a new clarity and cohesion to the band’s sound. “With the other changes we’ve made on this record, we wanted to try something new and it’s been one of the best things we’ve done as a band,” says Peters. “For me, I really just wanted to take a step back from the production and hand the reins over to someone else so I could concentrate on being a musician and it was the best decision we could have made.”

Alpha Male Tea Party have been key figures in the UK’s alternative music underground for over 15 years, with acclaimed appearances at ArcTanGent, Portals and Strangeforms Festivals, and countless others. They’ve received strong backing from the likes of Metal Hammer, Total Guitar, Echoes and Dust and Prog Magazine, with previous records praised for their technical mastery, maturity and exhilarating creativity, and Reptilian Brain suggests this latest chapter could be their most vital yet. With Reptilian Brain, Alpha Male Tea Party show no signs of slowing down, only evolving.
